I grew up in a big family of eleven living in Illinois, 12 miles east of the Gateway Arch and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. I came to Tennessee in 1986 to work the summer in the backcountry of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Solo backpacked 5 days and nights doing research on the permit system. Fell in love with the mountains and my mountain man, Jim Renfro! And never moved back to IL. Taught as a Teacher/Naturalist at Tremont, then as a Park Ranger in Cades Cove for six years before starting my most important job...Momma of three Renfros!

My husband, Jim, is the Air Resource Specialist (a real scientist) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Since 2014, I have been teaching small groups in Reading and Math Intervention! Here at Pi Beta Phi, along with schools across Tennessee, we are implementing RTI2 plan to help our students succeed!
