“Hey Mountaineers! My name is Kelsey Henry and I am so excited to join the Pi Beta Phi team in my first year of teaching. I am a recent graduate of Austin Peay State University with a Bachelors degree in Special Education. I was born and raised in Sevier County and I am thrilled to be teaching in the same school system I grew up in. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, including my dog Marlee. I also love sports and will be an assistant coach of the softball team at Gatlinburg Pittman High School. I am very passionate about working with children and I hope to inspire and encourage my students to reach their full potential. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store!”

I grew up in a big family of eleven living in Illinois 12 miles east of the Gateway Arch and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. I came to Tennessee in 1986 to work the summer in the backcountry of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Solo backpacked 5 days and nights doing research on the permit system. Fell in love with the mountains and my mountain man, Jim Renfro! And never moved back to IL. Taught as a Teacher/Naturalist at Tremont, then as a Park Ranger in Cades Cove for six years before starting my most important job...Momma of three Renfros!

My husband, Jim, is the Air Resource Specialist (a real scientist) in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Since 2014, I have been again teaching small groups in Reading and Math Intervention! Here at Pi Beta Phi, along with schools across Tennessee, we are implementing RTI2 plan to help our students succeed!
