I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts.
I have lived in a number of places over the years: Okinawa,
Japan,
Manassas, Virginia, and San Antonio, Texas
to name a few. I completed my undergraduate degree from Austin Peay State
University
in 1985. I taught one year at Snapfinger
Elementary School
in Atlanta, Georgia, assigned to teach
fifth grade. It was an exciting year filled with everything that wasn't
taught in my classes!
In 1986, I moved to East
Tennessee, setting up home with my husband, George, and my
two children. I began working at Northview Elementary
School in Kodak, teaching sixth grade. I
thoroughly enjoyed my years at Northview, teaching first grade, fifth,
sixth, and seventh grade classes. During my time at Northview, I
completed my Master of Science degree (1990).
In 1998, I was given the opportunity to open
the media center at the new Northview Middle
School. It meant additional coursework, but
it was a challenge and adventure that I welcomed. What a challenge! We
moved into the new school over winter break in February, 1998. From
that point, we worked to get settled, and “claim” the building as ours.
It took a lot of hard work that was very worthwhile. 1998 proved to be
a very busy year: I completed my Specialist in Education degree in the
spring of 1998, and signed up at Trevecca
College in Nashville to
complete the few courses I needed for the position of Media Specialist.
Again, a lot of hard work that proved to be very rewarding.
I
joined the faculty of Pi Beta Phi Elementary in 2000, and am very proud
of our school and the media center. We have worked very hard to provide
the students and teachers with a current collection of materials. We
are a small library, but we maximize our space! Every area in the
library is used for something: seventeen computers, seating for primary
and elementary students, and “The Pit”, our reading zone.
After twenty-two years of teaching, I am
certified to teach Early Childhood (K-3), Elementary (1-8), Library
(K-12), and Administration and Supervision. I have had a great career
in teaching and enjoy my interaction with the students. Most of all I
enjoy sharing my love of reading with them, and enjoy learning so much
from them.
